Gotye’s The Basics and a reforming Snout will perform for the Rock The Boat fundraiser for Green’s candidate Adam Bandt and The Asylum Seeker Resource Centre.
Snout, fronted by Australian Music Prize nominee Ross McLennan, will reform just for this benefit. Gotye recently put The Basics back together for a series of shows.
“People in my electorate are passionate about caring for refugees,” Bandt said in a statement. “It’s great to see music-lovers and some of Melbourne’s most talented musicians motivated enough to speak up in support of asylum seekers. I’m honoured that they’re raising money for my campaign and pleased they’re supporting the ASRC. As a long-time fan of Snout and admirer of Wally De Backer, I’m also looking forward to a great night of live music.”
Rock The Boat will also feature Joelistics and Even with the ABC’s Alan Brough interviewing the Greens member on stage.
Bandt’s aim is to get 284 to attend the gig, that is 1 person for every 30 asylum seekers held in detention as of May 31, 2013.
Rock The Boat will happen at the Northcote Social Club in Melbourne on August 22.
