Fans of The Beatles have discovered 13 fresh videos at the band’s YouTube channel this week.
The freshly updated Beatles YouTube channel has a stack of videos dedicated to the movie ‘Help’ and ‘Let It Be’, suggesting that their may be some renewed activity around a ‘Let It Be’ official release.
‘Let It Be’ is the only Beatles awaiting an official release.
There were five Beatles movies:
A Hard Days Night (1964)
Help (1965)
Magical Mystery Tour (1967)
Yellow Submarine (1968)
Let It Be (1970)
‘Let It Be’ was a documentary of The Beatles in the studio but while it was meant to be about the making of an album, it ended up capturing the disintegration of the group.
‘Let It Be’ was recorded before but released after ‘Abbey Road’. After filming the sessions over a four week period from January 1969 the recordings and film was originally rejected and work began on ‘Abbey Road’ in February 1969. ‘Abbey Road’ was released in September 1969.
After the completion of ‘Abbey Road’ The Beatles decided to revisit the ‘Let It Be’ project. The recordings were given to producer Phil Spector instead of long-time producer George Martin to complete.
The ‘Let It Be’ movie premiered in May 1970. In 1981, the movie did have an official release on VHS and again on videodisc in 1982 but was deleted shortly after.
An official DVD release was planned to accompany the 2003 debut of the ‘Let It Be…Naked’ album. The album featured the organic versions of the songs with the lush Phil Spector production from the original album stripped from the record the way Paul McCartney had originally intended it to sound.
