The Black Keys have been honoured by their former High School by being added to the Hall Of Fame.
The Akron Beacon reports that Pat Carney and Dan Auerbach visited Firestone High School in their hometown of Akron, Ohio, on the eve of their first ever areana tour of the US to help put up their photo on the Hall Of Fame.
Carney said “I haven’t been in here in 12 years, not since my brother graduated”. His brother, Michael Carney, won a Grammy for the album cover for their previous album Brothers.
Hall of Fame process for the school begins with a nomination, then inductees need a two-thirds majority vote to be included. Principal Larry Petry Jr noted, “They got in by a very large margin.”
Their former teacher and Auerbach’s childhood neighbour Lori Zupke said, “We’d hear Danny’s voice all the time, coming out of the basement or the attic, and it’s such a rich, powerful voice. At first we thought it was a record. When we found out it was Danny, it was like, ‘Oh, my God. That’s incredible’.”
“Patrick added flavor to the classroom,” she continued, “He says what he wants to say. I had to draw the line sometimes, but it made class fun. So, yeah, we saw it coming, and I’m so proud of them. They worked so hard.”
They join Firestone High Hall Of Fame alumni Judith Resnik, the second female US astronaut, and entertainer Joan Ashley Fiffick.
