The Black Keys and Danger Mouse are suing Pizza Hut and Home Depot for using their songs without authorisation.
Bloomberg reports that Pat and Dan (as well as their producer and co-writer Danger Mouse) are suing Pizza Hut and Home Depot in separate filings saying that the corporations has used parts of their first two El Camino singles without authorisation or compensation.
They claim that a Pizza Hut ad for Cheesy Bites Pizza “prominently features significant portions” of ‘Gold on the Ceiling’ and a Home Depot commercial for Ryobi power tools uses parts of ‘Lonely Boy’.
Their lawyer claims the use is “a brazen and improper effort to capitalize on plaintiffs’ hard-earned success”. Home Depot have already responded, a spokersperson saying, “We haven’t seen the complaint but we take intellectual property very seriously”.
