The Blackeyed Susans will reunite this weekend for three Christmas shows.

The Blackeyed Susans Christmas shows have been a tradition for 10 consecutive years. The three shows around Melbourne will feature special guest Freya Josephine Hollick.

“We have taken the Christmas show to Perth in the past but this year its just for Melbourne,” says founding member Phil Kakulus.

2019 marks a big year for the band. Its their 30th anniversary. “It is our 30th anniversary so we would like to celebrate that with some shows around the country,” Phil says.

Over the years Blackeyed Susans have had some incredible members including Kim Salmon, David McComb, Warren Ellis, Jim White and James Cruickshank.

“Kim for us, for Dave McComb and myself, was someone we used to see in Perth,” Phil told Noise11.com. “He is a little older than us. We used to see him in the Cheap Nasties, which were one of the first punk bands in Perth. We used to sneak in under age. He was one of our inspirations. To have him involved with the group was quite special”.

“Warren Ellis and Jim White, both from the Dirty Three, and joined before the Dirty Three. Warren then joined the Bad Seed. I remember going to see them in Bus Load of Fate, playing the Caberet Bar at the Prince of Wales. I was dumbstruck by Warren’s performance. We wanted to put a Melbourne line-up of the Susans and I said ‘I’ve seen this guy but don’t know if he is really good or really bad’. He turned out to be really good”.

“James Cruickshank was part of the Sydney line-up. He was a friend of ours and joined us for the short-lived Sydney Susans”.

The Blackeyed Susans Christmas shows are:

Fri 14 Dec – Caravan Music Club, Oakleigh VIC
Sat 15 Dec – Spotted Mallard, Brunswick VIC
Sun 16 Dec (matinee) – Spotted Mallard, Brunswick VIC

Toto Returns To Melbourne #Review

Toto’s 2025 setlist focuses on the heritage of the band. The setlist was interesting. Compared to how it was curated for Australia in 2019 this time Toto kept to the albums of the 1900s. Mind you, there were no complaints from the audience for doing that. The biggest hits came from those early years.
