One week after the death of Whitney Houston a London theatre company has announced plans for a musical theatre version of ‘The Bodyguard’.
The 1992 movie starred Whitney Houston as Rachel Marron and Kevin Costner as the bodyguard. It took $400 million at the box office and the Dolly Parton penned main song ‘I Will Always Love You’ became the biggest hit of Whitney’s career.
‘The Bodyguard’ musical will open in November at the Adelphi Theatre in London. Heather Headley will play Rachel.
A new script was written by American Alex Dinelaris. It is expected to have a slightly different story to the movie. The musical will also feature additional songs from Whitney’s career.
The production has been in development since last year.
