New Zealand band The Checks are calling it a day.
A statement on their Twitter feeds says:
“Dear friends, we have broken up. Thanks for the love and support over the last ten years. We could have asked for more! Love the Checks”
The Checks formed in 2003 and along with The Datsuns were part of the North Shore/Devonport sound.
Their break came in 2005 when, as an unsigned band, R.E.M.’s Michael Stipe offered The Checks a support slot on their New Zealand tour after hearing one of their songs.
In 2006, The Checks relocated to London and recorded their debut album ‘Hunting Whales’.
When they returned back to New Zealand, The Checks picked up support slots with The Hives, Oasis, The Killers and Muse.
