Noel Hogan, Mike Hogan and Fergal Lawler of Irish band The Cranberries have released a joint statement following the death of their lead singer Dolores O’Riordan.
O’Riordan died in London at age 46. A cause of death is yet to be revealed.
“We are devastated on the passing of our friend Dolores,” said Noel, Mike and Fergal in a statement posted to Facebook. “She was an extraordinary talent and we feel very privileged to have been part of her life from 1989 when we started the Cranberries. The world has lost a true artist today”.
The Cranberries are the second most successful Irish band after U2. Their 1993 debut album ‘Everybody Else Is Doing It, So Why Can’t We?” was a no 1 album in Ireland and the UK and reached no 16 in Australia and 18 in the USA.
The next record ‘No Need To Argue’ (1994) took them to no 1 in Australia but didn’t make no 1 in Ireland where it peaked at no 3. It reached no 2 in the UK and no 6 in the USA.
The international successes continued into the third album ‘To The Faithful Departed’ in 1996. It reached no 1 in Ireland, Australia and New Zealand, no 2 in the UK and no 4 in the USA.
The most recent album for The Cranberries ‘Something Else’ was released in April, 2017.
