The Jezabels, Melbourne, April 29 2014 REVIEW

Australian indie, alternative rock and disco pop band, The Jezabels filled every seat for their Australian Tour with guests Gang Of Youths on Friday night as fans flocked to the Palais Theatre in St Kilda.

Gang Of Youths warmed up the crowd with their raw performance, and use of stage space, performing their well known hits Evangelists, Riverlands and Poison Drum.

The Jezabels kicked off their show using the space of the stage effectively as Hayley Mary captivated the audience by dancing and taking the lead on vocals. Asking the crowd to stand up during the second song of the performance, Hayley Mary automatically had the audience engaged in every word she sung.

Interacting between almost every song with their audience, Hayley Mary was able to put her trust in audience members and perform unrelentingly whilst members of the audience held her up for the rest of the crowd to see.

Dedicating their song ‘No Country’ to asylum seekers, the band was able to tell a story to the audience who respectfully listened in awe.

With a very well executed performance, and fantastic light show, The Jezabels were able to have their fans cheering for an encore without hesitation, resulting in the band returning for 2 final songs.

Performing a stripped back version of their hit single ‘Disco Biscuit Love’, the crowd was ecstatic and continued the applause as The Jezabels showed their appreciation for such an energetic crowd.

All in all an excellent and entertaining performance.
