Internationally revered avant-garde instrumentalists The Necks announce their next album.
The Sydney trio, consisting of Chris Abrahams, Tony Buck and Lloyd Swanton, have long been worshipped for their experimental, instrumental, minimalist jazz odysseys, winning multiple ARIA Awards across their 24 year career.
The raves have come from around the globe – the New York Times calling them “one of the greatest bands in the world”, the UK Times claiming “no other group in the world sounds quite like The Necks”.
They return in 2011 with the two tracks ‘Rum Jungle’ and ‘Daylights’ forming their 16th album Mindset.
Drummer and percussionist Buck said in a press release, “Mindset shares some elements in common with our previous album Silverwater, mostly in some mixing approaches and rhythmic devices; a reflection of our ongoing fascination with polymetric material and varying simultaneous pulses…”
“But it’s a whole other thing again, and what’s more, the two tracks are very different from each other – ‘Rum Jungle’ displays the live approach of the trio of piano, bass, and drums a lot more; ‘Daylights’ features a bed of electronics and little sounds that slowly converge and coalesce into a multi-layered, multi-tempo, swirling soundscape.”
Mindset will be released on November 18 on CD and, in a first for the band, on vinyl.
