Melbourne’s The Production Company will start its final show of the 2016 season with ‘Dusty’ on November 12.

‘Dusty’ will be performed for 27 shows at Melbourne’s Playhouse Theatre until December 4.

‘Dusty’, written by John Michael-Howson, tells the story of Dusty Springfield. The show was originally performed in 2006.

For the 2016 production, Any Lehpamer will play Dusty Springfield, the British popstar who achieved international fame but died in 1999 at the age of 59.

The full cast announcement has Todd McKenney (The Boy From Oz) playing the role of Rodney, her loyal hairdresser and long time confidant. Elenoa Rokobaro makes her Production Company debut in the role of Reno. Virginia Gay (Winners and Losers) is Peg, Anne Wood and Tyler Coppin are Kay and Gerard O’Brien. In the role of the young Dusty (Mary O’Brien) is Baylie Carson, who makes her professional debut in this role.

This new production is directed by award winning director, Jason Langley, conducted by Michael Tyack and choreographed by Michael Ralph.

Dusty Springfield had a string of hit songs starting with ‘I Only Want To Be With You’ in 1963 and including ‘Stay Awhile’, ‘Wishing and Hoping’, ‘I Just Don’t Know What To Do With Myself’, ‘Going Back’, ‘The Look of Love’, ‘Son of a Preacher Man’ and ‘You Don’t Have To Say You Love Me’.

The 1969 Dusty Springfield album ‘Dusty In Memphis’, while not a hit record at the time, became one of the most important documents of the spread of Memphis music in later years.

The Production Company has also set its 2017 dates and will announce the 2017 earlier than usual next year. Usually the season is revealed in March but with an earlier start to the season, the announcement will be in February 2017.

Season 1, May 27-June11 at the Playhouse
Season 2, July 19 to August 6 at the State Theatre
Season 3, October 28 to November 5 at the State Theatre
