North Melbourne’s iconic Public Bar has revealed its first list of gigs to follow their reopening next week.
Bands don’t kick off until October 24 with The Brothers Grim, but the bar will open its doors once again this coming Friday (October 12).
Shows by Cash Savage and the Last Drinks, Mikelangelo and the Tin Star and more are a promising (re)start for the venue.
It will be the first run of shows since the venue was taken over by Singa Unlayati, Joel Morrison and Liam Matthews who also own The Old Bar and the building (but not the business) of the Bridge Hotel in Castlemaine, just out of Melbourne.
The Old Bar has built a reputation of fostering local bands and nurturing local talent and while much public attention has been focused on other venues in Melbourne, the quiet achievers have helped the careers of Graveyard Train, Cash Savage and The Brothers Grim to name a few. With the same band booker on board, it’s hard to believe that the Public Bar will be any different.
At a time when the future of live music venues seems a bit uncertain, this is welcome news indeed.
