Margaret Groening, the mother of Simpsons creator Matt Groenig, has passed away at the age of 94.

Matt based his TV The Simpsons on his real life family, using their names as his character. The Simpson’s matriarch Marge Simpson was based on his mother.
Margaret Groening was known as Marge to her friends and her husband’s name (Matt’s father) was really called Homer.
Marge’s maiden-name was Wiggum. Her oldest sister was named Patty and as well as Matt, her children were Lisa and Maggie (as well a Mark).
Margaret Groening died on April 22, 2013. She lived in Portland.
