The Replacements haven’t played a show in their hometown of Minneapolis-St. Paul in 23 years, so the announcement of a September 13 show at Midway Stadium was met with huge enthusiasm.
That translated into a lot of disappointed fans when the 13,000 tickets for the show sold out in minutes.
According to the Star-Tribune, the announcement of a sellout was made about a half hour after tickets went on sale but, per First Ave. general manager Nate Kranz, “it essentially happened immediately.”
Opening for the band in September will be the Hold Steady and Lucero.
People are mum about a second show but the band is not denying it might happen, saying “At present, no additional shows in the Twin Cities have been announced but stay tuned, you never know what will happen.”
