Lana Del Rey, Lorde and George Strait among first-time winners of the Recording Industry Association of America’s (RIAA) newest digital downloads tally.
The awards recognise digital single downloads as well as tallying plays via music streaming services such as Spotify and Rdio.
Platinum awards for more than one million downloads and streams went to first time winners Lana Del Rey for ‘Summertime Sadness’, New Zealand’s brightest star Lorde for ‘Royals’ and George Strait for ‘Give It All We Got Tonight’.
First time winner in the Gold certification category included Grace Potter and the Nocturnals for ‘Paris (Ooh La La), Randy Newman for ‘You Got A Friend In Me’ from Toy Story, Thomas Rhett’s debut single ‘It Goes Like This’ and the Neighbourhood’s ‘Sweater Weather’.
Imagine Dragons and Robin Thicke were also in the mix, receiving multi platinum awards for their hugely successful singles.
Meanwhile, Jay-Z, Luke Bryan and Blake Shelton all picked up platinum album awards.
