The Rubens ‘Hoops’ would have debuted at number one across Australia this week had it not been for Dr Dre’s ‘Compton’ selling as a digital only release but it is the number one album at retail.
For The Rubens ‘Hoops’, the first Dr Dre album in 16 years, mounted with a massive promotional push from Apple Music, was an impossible act to compete with.
One week earlier with only Meghan Trainor to beat ‘Hoops’ would have easily outsold Trainor’s ‘Title’ but in a week with nothing happening in new music, Trainor’s ‘Title’ defaulted back to number one without any competition.
‘Hoops’ sold 4759 copies this week, 2273 of those were on CD, making The Rubens album the most purchased album in stores for the past week. Trainor fell back to number 3 with 3803 sales after having the number one spot last week with just 4149 sales.
Nothing came close to the Dr Dre sales of 19,185 units purchased in Australia in the previous seven days. Dr Dre ‘Compton’ is the fastest selling album of 2015 (so far).
