The Rubens Introduce New Music Live Initiative Chucka Buckas

The Rubens will take over The Botany View Hotel in Sydney to present a new live music initiative they called Chucka Buckas.

The concept is to give a live music space for new acts to perform live. The events are free for music fans to attend to check out unsigned acts.

The first three acts will be Shady Nasty, Spike Vincent and Sparrows.

The Rubens announced:

Hello friends,

The band have been reflecting a lot lately about when we formed and how much support we’ve had along the way from family, friends, fans & industry. We pinch ourselves at how lucky we are to be able to do music full time, to call this our ‘job’.

When we started out there were a lot more venues to play in and around Sydney and due to new laws and different times, it’s changed a lot, making it harder for new acts. Playing live and building up an audience is crucial to the development of any artists’ career.

Scotty recently had the opportunity to speak at the NSW Parliamentary Inquiry about contemporary music and spoke passionately about supporting grass roots music.

With all this in mind, we feel we need to step up and play our small part in helping the next generation of bands coming through. We love all sorts of music and helping build fans for these artists is very important.

So today we’re launching a free band night called Chucka Buckas.

The name and logo is a homage to our beloved sound man/tour manager/good mate Clint. On tour in the states a few years back, Clint was super excited to have dinner at a place he’d seen during that days’ drive. Clint is magic with technical mumbo jumbo but often scrambles his words. He asked hotel staff, locals, and anyone who would listen if they could please point him in the direction of “Chucka Buckas” for some delicious southern hospitality. No one had a clue what he was talking about, and after a little detective work we realised he’d meant the American restaurant chain “Cracker Barrel”.

Anywho, Clint’s the lovable, hardworking industry type who we feel is a great mascot for the underdog in the music world.

Chucka Bucka’s will happen once a month on a Wednesday at the Botany View Hotel and we’ll be putting forward diverse line ups of artists we think are great.

We’re excited to announce the first line up will be on Wednesday 21st November featuring Shady Nasty, Spike Vincent & Sparrows.

Many more updates to come along the way but for now, head to www.chucka-buckas.com for all info.

Come out and support new talent & live music!

Chucka Buckas is at The Botany View Hotel, 597 King St, Newtown on November 21 from 8pm.

Music education in the UK faces significant challenges, with varying needs across regions, schools, and age groups. While the UK music industry contributed a record £7.6 billion to the economy in 2024 (source: UKMusic.org), disparities still remain in terms of access to music education. A 2019 BPI survey revealed that one in four schools serving disadvantaged communities offer no music lessons at all.
