New South Wales soulful blues act The Rubens join Ivy League Records, start recording their debut, and sell out half their tour.
The quartet are from the regional town of Meneagle, inland between Wollongong and Sydney, and pricked up ears through their first single ‘Lay It Down’, which featured on triple j Unearthed leading to a slot on Homebake and soon enough hit the last Hottest 100 list at number 57.
They’ve only been a band for a little over a year, but brothers Sam, Elliott, and Zaac Margin, and pal Scott Baldwin, have been snapped up by Ivy League Records, who are behind releases from AMP-winners Cloud Control, Lanie Lane, Josh Pike, Deep Sea Arcade, Alpine and Catcall.
The Rubens are currently in New York recording with producer David Kahne (who has worked with Paul McCartney, Regina Spektor, and The Strokes).
They’ll be back to showcase new tunes on a national headlining tour in April (they’ve already sold out three Melbourne, two Sydney and one Brisbane show) and then as support for Lanie Lane during her May tour.
