The Sports’ Martin Armiger To Receive Distinguished Services To The Australian Screen Award

Martin Armiger, former member of The Sports and long-time television and movie composer will be honoured at the upcoming Screen Music Awards with the Distinguished Services award.

Martin was The Sports’ guitarist for the bands four albums ‘Reckless’ (1978), ‘Don’t Throw Stones’ (1979), ‘Suddenly’ (1980) and ‘Sondra’ (1981).

Armiger began his screen career composing for the short-film ‘Drac’ and then took up the job of musical director for 20-part ABC series ‘Sweet and Sour’. He has since composed music for fourteen films and dozens more TV series including ‘Young Einstein’, ‘Police Rescue’ and ‘The Secret Life Of Us’.

“I am awed and ‘umbled, shocked and delighted and very proud to be the inaugural recipient of this award. Can you be humble and proud at the same time? Well if you can be, I am. I want to say a thousand ‘thank yous’ to APRA and the Guild for their support over a long period,” said Armiger.
