Industry executives have described the Voice winner’s song by Alfie Arcuri ‘Cruel’ as “a fucking disaster”.
Less than 24 hours after being made available ‘Cruel’ is struggling to stay in the iTunes Top 40, spending all day at the bottom end of the chart at around no 37.
Based on industry figures a no 37 position over a week of sales tallies up to around 2000 sales. That would indicate that at best Arcuri’s ‘Cruel’ has done around 300 sales.
An industry heavyweight says the show picked a worthy winner then gave him a crappy song. “The guy has a very good voice but the song is totally wrong for the winner,” the music exec said. “He can sing. The song didn’t give him credit to his voice. It was too cool. It was overly produced. It just wasn’t good”.
The Voice wasn’t short on viewers. The show was the most viewed show in Australia on Sunday night generating 1,287,000 views, well ahead of Masterchef Australia on 982,000 viewers.
At the end of the show the announcement of the song on sale was tweeted to the shows 212,000 followers.
Alfie Arcuri won Australia’s fifth season of ‘The Voice’ beating Tash Lockhart, Ellen Reed and Andrew Loadsman.
