The Waterboys are finally coming to Australia. Mike Scott has confirmed Aussie shows for The Waterboys in Australia in January, 2013 for Live Nation.
Mike Scott formed The Waterboys in Scotland in 1983 so the January shows will mark the start of the 30th anniversary of the band.
The band’s first single ‘A Girl Called Johnny’ was released in March, 1983. By May, 193 Karl Wallinger had joined the band. When he left, he started World Party, a band he named after a 1989 song by The Waterboys. The first album by The Waterboys was released in July, 1983.
The name The Waterboys came from a line in the Lou Reed song ‘The Kids’ from the Berlin album.
In 1984 The Waterboys released the now classic ‘The Whole of the Moon’.
The most recent album for The Waterboys is ‘An Appointment With Mr Yeats’, released in September 2011.
