Brits The xx have announced some exclusive Australian shows before the release of their second album.
The trio won the coveted British Mercury Prize for their debut album, and have spent the last couple of years being the indie cause celebre while working on their follow-up (and producing remixes for megastars Adele, Ne-Yo, Shakira and more).
Their second album has now been announced. It’ll be titled Coexist and is due on September 10 through Young Turks.
They wrote on their Facebook page: “After a long time on the road, we took a break, created our own studio and wrote these new songs that we’re so looking forward to playing to you. We will be touring throughout the summer and beyond, and hope to play somewhere near you soon.”
Some of that roadwork will include two shows in Australia in July as a precursor to the release. The band said in a press release: “We are very excited to be returning to Australia soon for two small shows. We will play The Forum in Melbourne on July 18th and The Metro in Sydney on July 20th. To try and stop touts getting all the tickets, there is a lottery system which you can apply for. Hope to see you xx”.
The tickets are very limited, and will be sold through a ballot, which is open now at Ticketmaster for Melbourne and at Ticketek for Sydney. Check out the demo for a new tune ‘Open Eyes’ below.
