Melbourne singer Tina Arena has been awarded one of France’s highest honors, the Knighthood of the Order of National Merit.
44-year old Australian Tina has lived in France since 2008. She has been given the award from the incumbent French President for her contribution to the French culture.
In her time living in the country she has recorded a number of French-language albums.
Talking to AAP after receiving the award Tina said, I’m an Australian citizen receiving a very high accolade by the Republic of France. For me it’s not just a recognition for me, it’s a recognition that represents the country and for me, it’s Australia that wins this. I’m just a vehicle, I’m purely the vehicle.”
In 2012 she will spend about 5 months back in Australia working with Rob Mills on the new Young Talent Time.
Tina has won six ARIA Awards and a World Music Award. She has sold over 8 million records worldwide.
