Tina Arena will perform for the Hamer Hall Opening Celebrations in Melbourne in July.
The Melbourne venue has been closed as part of a two-year $128.5 million redevelopment.
The show is a big deal for the girl from the Melbourne suburb of Moonee Ponds. “It’s hard to believe that when Hamer Hall first opened, I was already a professional singer and I did one of my very first shows here back then,” she said in a statement. “To be back in my home town, fronting my own orchestra in a place that is both very special to me and such a superb concert hall is close to heaven.”
“As soon as we had our opening dates confirmed in December, we sought out Tina and we are thrilled she was able to adjust her schedule so she can be with us,” said Judith Isherwood Arts Centre Melbourne CEO. “Melbourne is a musical town, and Tina is part of its musical history. She absolutely had to be part of the re-opening.”
“Tina’s Hamer Hall concert will come hot on the heels of her engagements with the West Australian and Sydney Symphony Orchestras, and we have assembled a very fine orchestra indeed for her Melbourne appearance,” said producer Tim Woods. “Tina’s incredible vocal command in combination with an orchestra in full force is a truly awesome experience!”
Tina’s show will take place on July 28 at 8pm. Tickets go on sale on February 22.
