Todd Rundgren To Receive Les Paul Award

Todd Rundgren will receive the 2014 Les Paul Award at the 29th Technical Excellence and Creativity Awards, part of the NAMM convention in January.

The award is given to individual and companies who provide outstanding achievement in professional audio technology and audio technology. The award will be presented on January 24 at the Anaheim Hilton.

Rundgren’s many achievements beyond his writing and recording includes engineering and producing and he has been a pioneer of interactive and on-line distribution of music.

Per the press release:

The Les Paul Award, named for the revolutionary inventor and esteemed musician, is presented annually to honor individuals or institutions that have set the highest standards of excellence in the creative application of audio and music technology. Russ Paul, son of Les Paul, will make the presentation on behalf of the Les Paul Foundation, sponsor of the award.

Instituted in 1991, the honor has been granted to such luminaries as Pete Townshend, Paul McCartney, Brian Wilson, Stevie Wonder, Neil Young and Peter Gabriel.

Two people will be inducted into the TEC Foundation For Excellence in Audio Hall of Fame.

John Meyer is the co-founder and CEO of the Meyer Sound Laboratories in Berkeley, CA where he made “cutting-edge contributions to sound reinforcement in the performing arts.”
Hal Blaine who was the drummer for the Wrecking Crew, playing on over 5,000 records.
Blaine has played on some of the biggest and most diverse hit records of the last fifty years including Elvis Presley’s Can’t Help Falling in Love, the Crystal’s He’s a Rebel, the Byrd’s Mr. Tambourine Man, Frank Sinatra’s Strangers in the Night, the Beach Boys’ Good Vibrations and the Captain and Tennille’s Love Will Keep Us Together. He played drums on six consecutive winners of the Grammy for Record of the Year (A Taste of Honey, Strangers in the Night, Up Up and Away, Mrs. Robinson, Aquarius/Let the Sunshine In and Bridge Over Troubled Waters).
