Beyonce is hoping to make Tony Bennett’s 90th birthday wish come true by performing with him.
Tony Bennett marked the age milestone in August and, during his celebrations, he admitted there was still one artist he was desperate to collaborate with, branding the Formation hitmaker “terrific”.
Tony has since had the chance to meet with Beyonce and it appears she was listening, as he reveals she has already put the wheels in motion for a possible duet.
“Beyonce, she’s thinking of something to do with me,” he tells People.com. “We met at a benefit, and she said, ‘I’ve got an idea that we should do something together’.”
Tony admits the secretive singer has yet to enlighten him about her plans for the pair, but he is hopeful they will get together in 2017.
“She didn’t tell me what it was yet, so we’ll see what happens!” he smiles.
Meanwhile, Tony is also keen to lock down some studio time with his longtime friend Lady Gaga for a follow-up to their Grammy Award-winning 2014 jazz album, Cheek to Cheek.
“I’d love to do a second album with Lady Gaga,” he shares. “She was performing at a benefit the first time I met her. I told her backstage, ‘You were terrific! I’d love to do an album with you someday’. She said, ‘Let’s do it!’ Boom!
“We get along great. We’ve been close ever since.”
Gaga was among the top musicians who helped Tony celebrate his 90th birthday in a TV special, which was recorded at New York’s Radio City Music Hall in September and is due to air in the U.S. on December 20.
Tony Bennett Celebrates 90: The Best Is Yet to Come will also feature performances from past Bennett collaborators Stevie Wonder, Aretha Franklin, Billy Joel, Elton John, and Andrea Bocelli, among many others.
