On March 14, 1987, Tony Kanal saw the fledgeling band No Doubt at a club in Washington, DC. A week later, he was playing bass with them.

The band had been started by Eric Stefani and John Spence with Eric’s sister, Gwen, singing background vocals. Over time, the lineup of the band evolved. Both Eric and John left and Gwen moved up to lead vocals. Tom Dumont joined in 1988 and Adrian Young in 1989, forming the basis of the group that remains together today.

A quick message of gratitude before this days ends. March 14, 1987. No Doubt. 30 years. Thank you

On Tuesday (March 14), Kanal posted a video to Instagram thanking the band’s fans for the last thirty years.

The band released their self-titled debut album in 1992 and, three years later, broke huge with the number 1 album Tragic Kingdom which included hits like Spiderwebs, Just a Girl and Don’t Speak. Two more albums, Return to Saturn (2000) and Rock Steady (2001), were released along with a Greatest Hits set (2003) before Stefani started concentrating on her solo career. They reunited in 2012 for the album Push and Shove.
