Thousands of people turned out at the main stage yesterday afternoon to celebrate the life of David Bowie on the third day of the Isle of Wight Festival.

The festival hosted Bowie’s last ever UK live performance back in 2004, and festival organizer John Giddings called on the audience to pay tribute by wearing David Bowie masks, sold to raise money for Stand Up To Cancer. A surprise performance of Starman by Gary Kemp and Andrea Corr then helped to unite the crowd in recognition of Bowie’s legendary status before The Corrs went into their set on the main stage.

Still buzzing from the news that Ash & Ice has become the band’s highest charting album, The Kills thrilled the Main Stage audience with their effortlessly cool style and compelling stage presence. Meanwhile, later in the BT Field of Dreams, football fans gathered to watch the England vs Russia game.

The festival also celebrated 40 years of punk this year with performances on the day from from The Damned, Buzzcocks and The Dolls but it was Iggy Pop’s Saturday early evening performance that stole the show. He proved once again why he is renowned as one of the most dynamic stage performers of all time. His electrifying performance cemented his place in punk history, as Iggy delighted the crowds packed into the Main Stage arena to see one of music’s most enduring and exciting talents.

Earlier, The Corrs brought their unique blend of pop, rock and traditional Irish melodies to Seaclose Park following Andrea Corr’s tribute to David Bowie. The Irish siblings treated the already excited crowds to some of their most instantly recognizable anthems What Can I Do, So Young and Runaway.

British rock legend’s The Who returned to the Isle of Wight Festival for their fourth headline slot – and their only UK festival performance of 2016 – bringing Saturday night to a close with a thrilling set, including Pinball Wizard, Who Are You and My Generation. The festival also welcomed The Verve frontman Richard Ashcroft along as special guest, who performed ahead of The Who’s set bringing out all the hits including Bittersweet Symphony, Lucky Man and The Drugs Don’t Work as well as music from his new album These People.

Today’s line up sees Queen + Adam Lambert headline, drawing the curtain on the first major festival of the year, with performances also from Ocean Colour Scene, The Cribs, Twin Atltantic, Feeder and more.
