Has Macklemore & Ryan Lewis ‘Thrift Shop’ already won the Triple J Hottest 100? Nick Drewe certainly thinks so.
Drewe has been capturing Hottest 100 statistics from social media networks and has put together his prediction for the Hottest 100 that he has called The Warmest 100.
Drewe was monitoring Facebook posts when he noticed the URL’s used to vote had a pattern.
He noted the unique identifier related to a particular song and began logging the votes.
Over the past fortnight Nick captured around 30000 votes which represents a sample size of about 2% of actually Hottest 100 votes. Note that 2% is a much bigger sample than the one used for radio and television ratings.
Based on his sample this is what the Hottest Top 10 could potentially look like:
1. Macklemore and Ryan Lewis – Thrift Shop
2. Of Monsters and Men – Little Talks
3. ALT-J – Breezeblocks
4. Frank Ocean – Lost
5. Tame Impala – Elephant
6. Flume – Holdin On
7. Mumford & Sons – I Will Wait
8. Major Lazer – Get ree
9. Tame Impala – Feels Like We Only Go Backwards
10. The Rubens – My Gun

How accurate Nick’s theory is remains to be seen but all will be revealed on Triple J on Australia Day.
