The original countdown was conducted by mail. Listeners sent in a list of there 10 favourite songs. From any era. The winner for the first two years was Joy Division ‘Love Will Tear Us Apart’.
The first Triple J Hottest 100 CD was released in 1994. That year Denis Leary’s ‘Asshole’ was the number one song.
The first Triple J Hottest 100 DVD was released in 2002. The winner that year was Queens of the Stone Age’s ‘No One Knows’.
