Triple J will mark its 40th anniversary with a concert for Sydney in January.

The origins of Triple J debuted as ABC youth station 2JJ (Double J) in Sydney only on January 19, 1975 on the AM band. The station launched at 11am with the banned song at the time ‘You Just Like Me ‘Cos I’m Good In Bed’ by Skyhooks.

Double J was able to exist due to the policies of then Prime Minister Gough Whitlam whose progressive media strategy accelerated the quality and scope of Australian radio.

2JJ Sydney became Triple J nationally on August 1, 1980.

Triple J will mark its 40th anniversary with the Beat The Drum concert to be held on January 16, 2015 in The Domain, Sydney.
