ABC youth network Triple J was the big winner in the first radio survey of 2012 but not with the youth.
Triple J won the prestigious 25-39 demographic in Sydney at the expense of 2DAYFM and Nova capturing 18.5% of that market. It was also number one for the demo in Adelaide and Perth.
2DAYFM took a caning off the back of the Kyle Sandilands backlash with the breakfast slot dropping 1.1 points to start the year in third place.
While the survey was a disaster for Austereo jewel-in-the-crown 2DAYFM, it was a windfall for sister station MMM. MMM registered a 4.3 point jump in the 25-39 demo, up to 13.9 to put the station in second place for that age bracket.
2DAYFM only managed to hold onto the 10-17 year olds. In 18-24 year olds it ranked number 2 behind Nova and third in 25-39 behind Triple J and MMM and third in 40-54’s behind WSFM and 2GB.
In other markets Triple J was first in Adelaide and Brisbane, second in Brisbane and fourth in Melbourne* for the competitive 25-39 demographic. (*Melbourne’s 3RRR and PBS-FM have a long-term loyal following blocking Triple J’s indie dominance in Australia’s second biggest market).
