News of a Twin Peaks remake broke in January when it was first confirmed that Lynch was on board to recreate the show for a 2016 series to mark the 25th anniversary. The original Twin Peaks was broadcast over two series in 1990 and 1991.
Then in April it all went soar when Lynch failed to negotiate the level of funding needed to make the new show to his standard. “Showtime did not pull the plug on Twin Peaks. After 1 year and 4 months of negotiations, I left because not enough money was offered to do the script the way I felt it needed to be done. This weekend I started to call actors to let them know I would not be directing. Twin Peaks may still be very much alive at Showtime. I love the world of Twin Peaks and wish things could have worked out differently,” he said in April.
Lynch created the original show with Mark Frost who remained on board when Lynch walked out. HBO, the network making the new Twin Peaks series has woken up to the fact that Lynch is essential to a new series.
He’s back!
