Pete Way, who played bass with UFO during four different stints between 1969 and 2011, has been diagnosed with prostate cancer, pushing back the release of his new solo album, Walking on the Edge.

Way revealed to Classic Rock magazine that the cancer was found during a routine diagnostic scan for his on-going liver problems. “My liver has been the area of most concern over the years. But they did a scan of that whole area around my abdomen and that’s when they found it.”

Pete is as upbeat as one can be who has faced a cancer diagnosis. “I’m lucky. This is prostate cancer. It’s not lung cancer. It’s not pancreatic cancer. If you’re going to get cancer, this is the best one you can have – and they caught it early.

“I was upset at first. It made me depressed. But I’m determined to carry on, to beat it, to get my album out and tour.

He went on to say that he is amazed that, with all the booze and drugs over the years, it’s prostate cancer that brought his world to a stop. “You couldn’t make it up, could you?”
