Van Halen attempted to reform in 2018 but it all went south very quickly.

Original bass player Michael Anthony told Howard Stern, “I was actually contacted by management last October to see if I was interested but that’s as far as it went”.

“I think they were trying to put something together at their end and something went wrong at their end,” Anthony added.

Michael Anthony also told Stern he would be happy to reunite with Van Halen but “it would have to be done on good terms and it would have to be done right”.

Sammy Hagar was also in on the interview. He said he had not talked to “those guys since 2004”.

The first rumours that Michael Anthony was fired from Van Halen surfaced in 1996. While he was credited as a band member for the 1998 ‘Van Halen III’ album he only played on three tracks. He toured with the band in 1998 and with the David Lee Roth reunions in 2000 and 2001. In 2006 Eddie Van Halen finally announced that his son Wolfgang was the new bass player for Van Halen.

Michael Anthony is currently a member of The Circle with Sammy Hagar, Jason Bonham and Vic Johnson.
