Vince Gill has been named the 2014 Country Icon by BMI.
Gill will be honored at the organization’s 62nd Annual BMI Country Awards on Tuesday, November 4 at their Music Row offices.
BMI President and Chief Executive Officer Mike O’Neill said “The craft of a songwriter isn’t easy; however, Vince makes it look easy. He binds lyrics with music into timeless songs that have influenced musicians across all genres. Vince Gill’s discography, in addition to his philanthropic endeavors in Nashville and beyond, represents the epitome of a BMI Icon, and we look forward to celebrating his accomplishments.”
Over the years, Gill has amassed over 40 million radio performances of his songs, including I Still Believe in You, When I Call Your Name and Never Knew Lonely. His twenty Grammy Awards is the most by any male country artist and he has won Entertainer of the Year twice, Male Vocalist of the Year five times (in a row!) and Song of the Year four times at the CMA’s.
The BMI Icon Award is given to “songwriters who have had a unique and indelible influence on generations of music makers.”
