Canadian viral sensations Walk Off The Earth got a little carried away the other day when they solicited fans via Facebook to protest Sony Australia for the release of their new E.P. ‘R.E.V.O.’ Sony Australia already had it scheduled.

A spokesperson for Sony Music Australia has confirmed to Noise11 that ‘R.E.V.O.’ was always planned for release on November 16, 2012 and is still currently listed for release in Australia on that date.

On Tuesday Walk Off The Earth posted to fans, “We are very disappointed right now because Sony Music Australia, the label who is taking care of our Aussie/New Zealand R.E.V.O. release, is refusing to release the record like the rest of the world is.”

One hour later they claimed victory, announcing Sony would now release the song …but it was always going to happen.

Sony Australia were most understanding of the mix-up. The Sony office in New York was closed at the time because of the hurricane. No-one from Sony in America was contactable and therefore no-one from Sony Australia was any the wiser about the concerns of Walk Off The Earth.

The situation has been resolved and both Sony Australia and Walk Off The Earth are happy with the solution and both are looking forward to working closely together to make ‘R.E.V.O.’ a hit in Australia.

Walk Off The Earth are the Canadian band that covered Gotye ‘Somebody That I Used To Know’ with the video featuring five people playing one guitar simultaneously. At time of publication it has had 137,997,190 YouTube views.
