Out on Long Island, there is a little covers band called Big Shot that performs the music of Billy Joel.
On Friday night, Big Shot was playing the Paramount Theater in Huntington, NY which, coincidentally, is not far from the home of the artist that they salute at each performance.
Not so coincidentally, three members of Big Shot also happen to be members of Joel’s touring band so, while it was a surprise and a thrill for the audience, it wasn’t quite as big of a deal for the band when Mr. Joel himself took the stage.
Joel played three songs with Big Shot, With a Little Help From My Friends, with Joel doing his best Joe Cocker imitation, the Rolling Stones’ Honky Tonk Woman and his own You May Be Right on which the band mixed in a bit of Led Zeppelin’s Rock and Roll.
This is audience shot video with a bit of distorted sound, but it does capture the surprise appearance:
