In September, 2012, The Waterboys returned to the Irish village of Spiddal in the Gaeltacht of County Galway and performed at the Naechtains bar at the Park Lodge Hotel in Galway.
In 1988, The Waterboys recorded their classic ‘Fisherman’s Blues’ album in Spiddal over a 6 month period. Mike Scott tells the story of the influence of Spiddal on his life in his recent book ‘Adventures of a Waterboy’.
Despite the fun times in Spiddal in 1988 this September 2012 show was the first time Mike Scott, Steve Wickham and Anto Thistlewaite performed a formal concert.
Musicians at the Spiddal show included Charlie Lennon who played on the ‘Fisherman’s Blues’ album and Eleanor Shanley was covered The Waterboys song ‘Strange Boat’ in 2008 to raise awareness of organ donation.
The Waterboys will tour Australia for the very first time in January, 2013.
