Weezer Are Making A Movie

Weezer have confirmed they are making a film.

Weezer were late additions to the Coachella bill at the weekend following cancellations from FKA Twigs and Anitta, and while on stage at the California festival, frontman Rivers Cuomo noted the band had been busy with their mystery project, but couldn’t resist halting filming to perform at the event.

Shortly before performing ‘Undone – The Sweater Song’, Rivers told the crowd: “We’ve been busy making the Weezer movie back in LA the last couple weeks.

“But when Coachella called us up, said, ‘Hey Weezer, could you guys make it out for a surprise appearance?,’ we’re like, ‘Heck yeah!’ It feels so good to be here with you guys and let out these emotions.”

The confirmation comes as fans online revealed members of the Weezer fan club had received messages alerting them that the group would be

“doing a private filmed merchandise signing for a select few fans, for a TBA video” and that “selected participants will need to sign a release and NDA prior to arriving,” with a shooting date set for 21 April.

Those taking part have been asked to bring their own merchandise and were advised that “this will involve several hours of ‘waiting in life’ for the camera crew’s needs”, as well as told unaccompanied minors can’t take part, and photography won’t be allowed.

And some people took to X to share a photo of a “Notice of Filming” that had been displayed in Los Angeles for a scripted feature film titled ‘Weezer Security Threat’.

Referencing a line in ‘Undone – The Sweater Song’, the production company was named as Watch Me Unravel LLC.

The posted advised a three-day shoot from 7-9 April would feature “simulated bullet effects” and “atmospheric smoke”.

The group’s appearance at Coachella came days after bassist Scott Shriner’s wife Jillian was taken into custody after being shot in the shoulder by police when she refused to surrender her gun during an altercation near her home in the Eagle Rock neighbourhood of Los Angeles while cops were hunting for a hit-and-run suspect.

Weezer didn’t address the situation during their Coachella appearance.
