LA rock geeks Weezer will play their classic debut album in their first Australian tour in 16 years.
Weezer have been touring the US playing their landmark power pop gems Pinkerton and the Blue album and now Australia get to see the band for the first time in 16 years. That 1996 tour was their one and only visit to Australia.
Their self-titled 1994 debut has sold more than three million copies lead by breakthrough singles ‘Undone – The Sweater Song’, ‘Buddy Holly’ and ‘Say It Ain’t So’ and contains album tracks that have become equally beloved: ‘My Name Is Jonas’, ‘In The Garage’ and ‘Only In Dreams’.
It got crazy good reviews upon release, and has since become a modern classic, popping up on Best Of lists for the decade, and even Of All Time.
The band will be playing the album in full, as well as a Greatest Hits set. It will be momentous.
Rumours have them on the Big Day Out, and it’s quite possible since none of the dates clash exactly. It would have them racking up some frequent flyer miles though, going from Brisbane to Melbourne to Sydney to Gold Coast to Perth to Adelaide to Melbourne and back to Perth.
Tickets will go on sale Thursday 26 July from 9am. Brisbane and Perth go through Ticketek, Melbourne and Sydney through Ticketmaster.
