A White House representative has responded to Kanye West’s presidential hopes.
The 38-year-old Flashing Lights rapper announced he wants to run for presidency a few years from now while accepting his Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award at the MTV Music Video Awards Sunday night.
And his future bid to become America’s Commander in Chief has garnered support from politicians in the Oval Office.
‘[I look] forward to seeing what slogan he chooses to embroider on his campaign hat,’ White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest smiled to journalists aboard Air Force One, according to ABC News.
Although many view Kanye’s political career aspirations as a joke, the Democratic Party supports the star entering a future presidential campaign.
“Last night @kanyewest declared his candidacy for president in 2020. Welcome to the race, Mr. West. Glad to have you,’ a tweet reads on the The Democrats Twitter account.
After Taylor Swift presented him with the accolade at the VMAs, Kanye delivered a rambling speech.
‘And yes, as you probably could have guessed by this moment, I have decided in 2020 to run for president,’ he noted before discussing the future of humanity. ‘I’m confident. I believe in myself. We [are] the millennials, bro. This is a new mentality. We are not going to control our kids with brands. We are not going to teach low self-esteem and hate to our kids. We are going to teach our kids. to believe in themselves.’
Although some politicians have reached out with support of Kanye, it’s unclear how the current President of the United States Barack Obama feels about the musician’s goals.
The head of state previously dissed Kanye, calling the star a ‘jacka*s’ during an interview with the Atlantic.
