The death of Whitney Houston has generated a buying spree for fans. Since her death people have purchased over 100,000 Whitney Houston albums and almost 900,000 digital tracks.
Since news of Whitney’s death broke late Saturday (California time) her catalogue has sold 101,000 albums and 887,000 digital tracks so far, according to Nielsen SoundScan.
The biggest selling album was ‘Greatest Hits’ shifting 64,000 units since Saturday night. The biggest selling digital song was ‘I Will Always Love You’, selling over 195,000 units since Saturday.
Of the albums sold, 10,000 were physical CDs and 91,000 were downloaded.
In the week prior to her death Whitney sold 1,700 albums and 15,000 digital tracks.
Her albums sales were up 5994% this week over the previous and digital sales were up 5730% on the previous week.
According to Nielsen BDS, ‘I Will Always Love You’ was played 2137 times between Saturday and yesterday (13/2/12). In the same period last week, the song was played 134 times.
