Cindy Frey, the wife of the late Eagles member Glenn Frey, has filed a suit against Mount Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles for wrongful death.
Also named in the suit is gastroenterologist Steven Itzkowitz who cared for Frey in October and November of 2015. Frey died on January 18, 2016.
According to the suit, Cindy Frey is suing the hospital and doctor for negligence which caused the singer pain and anguish and that they did not properly treat his ulcerative colitis, diagnose and treat infection and advise of the risks and side effects from treatment.
Frey had been suffering from rheumatoid arthritis since 2000 with the various medications he was prescribed to control the disease leading to ulcerative colitis. In November 2015, the Eagles announced that they were postponing their acceptance of the Kennedy Center Honors so that Frey could undergo intestinal surgery.
As part of his recovery, Frey was placed in a medically induced coma but, during his hospitalization, he contracted pneumonia as a result of the medicine and treatment suppressing his immune system.
The suit states that Frey was made “sick, sore, lame and disabled, suffered injuries, pain, mental anguish … and was permanently injured and disabled until the time of his death.”
