Wilko Johnson’s pairing with Roger Daltrey for the album ‘Going Back Home’ has kicked in immediately in the UK with the album debuting at no. 3.
‘Going Back Home’ was used by Universal to resurrect the iconic Chess label, the original home of Chuck Berry, Muddy Waters, Bo Diddley and Muddy Waters.
The album features 11 tracks, 10 written by Johnson plus the Bob Dylan ‘Highway 61 Revisited’ classic ‘Can You Please Crawl Out Your Window’.
Wilko Johnson, a veteran of Dr Feelgood and The Blockheads, was diagnosed with inoperable cancer at the start of 2013. Instead of undergoing treatment Johnson rejected medical advice and decided to go out on his own terms. On August 31, 2013, he performed his final show in London. As it turns out, it wasn’t the last show. He did another one with Roger Daltrey to promote this record in February.
‘Going Back Home’ will be Wilko’s final album. “Roger jumped up and said, ‘Let’s do it,’” says Johnson. “He knew this lovely little studio called Yellow Fish in Uckfield. Unfortunate name for a place, but a great studio.”
