Wilko Johnson, of The Blockheads and Dr Feelgood fame, is resting comfortably after a major operation to remove his cancerous tumour.
An official statement from Wilko Johnson’s manager this morning, 2nd May 2014, said:
Wilko is recovering following a nine hour operation on Wednesday in which doctors successfully removed a pancreatic tumour.
The head of the medical team treating Wilko said that they were happy with his condition.
Wilko will stay under very close observation for the next few days.
Although cautiously optimistic the team have to stress that it is very early days yet.
The family thank everyone for their good wishes and ask for some privacy at this time so they can support Wilko with his recovery in peace.
Johnson was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer late in 2012 and was given ten months to live. He has far exceeded doctor’s expectations and, upon reexamination, was found to have a very slow growing form of the disease, one that affects just five percent of pancreatic cancer sufferers.
In all, Johnson was scheduled to have his pancreas and spleen and parts of the stomach, small and large intestine along with the reconstruction of blood vessels leading to his liver.
