Rapper will.i.am is planning to reunite with members of the Black Eyed Peas for a brand new singing game show.
The hip-hop star is working with producers at Natalka Znak and Simon Jones’ TV company to create Superdope, a series which will feature aspiring artists receiving notes from celebrity advisors, including will.i.am.
According to Deadline.com, he will also serve as host, and is hoping to recruit his Black Eyed Peas pals to perform on the show and help him mentor the contestants.
The series will be filmed in Los Angeles, and is currently being shopped to broadcasters in the U.S. and U.K.
Sources reveal Apple TV officials have expressed an interest in picking up the show, after recently buying another of will.i.am’s reality ideas – Planet of the Apps, an app-related competition programme.
It is not known if all of will’s bandmates – Taboo, apl.de.ap, and singer Fergie – will partake in Superdope, but if they do, it will mark their first project together since embarking on a hiatus in 2011.
The three rappers previously reunited last year (15) for the track Yesterday, to mark their 20th anniversary, while they also recently performed onstage together at will.i.am’s concert in London, where he spends part of his time as a judge on Britain’s The Voice talent show. Earlier this month (Jul16), he also signed on to act as a coach on the children’s spin-off The Voice Kids in 2017.
The TV news emerges weeks after Fergie admitted she was missing her fellow Where is the Love? hitmakers, and was hoping to regroup with them one day soon.
“I miss those guys,” she told London’s Evening Standard. “I’ve been working so hard on this (my solo career) right now. They’re my brothers for life. We don’t have anything in the works right now, but I love them to death.”
Following the band’s hiatus, Fergie took a few years off to focus on raising her son Axl, who was born in 2013, and recently made her comeback with solo single M.I.L.F. $.
