will.i.am sees joking around and writing music as therapy.
The Black Eyes Peas star has worked with some of the biggest artists in the business, including Michael Jackson and Ne-Yo. Making tracks comes naturally to him as it’s the one thing he can count on in life.
“That’s a good question,” he replied when British Hello! magazine asked what he does when he’s feeling down. “If I’m stressed, depressed or frustrated, I usually write songs about it. My therapy is composing or cracking jokes.”
In fact, will loves his work so much, he sometimes finds it hard to switch off. His pals aren’t always happy about that but when they tried to force him into some downtime, it didn’t go well at all.
“Friends talked me into taking a vacation. I got there and I was like, ‘What are we doing?’ They said, ‘We’re doing it.’ But it was boring. I was like, ‘We get paid to do things – why are we paying to do nothing?’ I’d rather have fun and do things we love and get paid for it. This is a constant vacay – that’s awesome,” he enthused.
While he loves hitting the studio with other artists, will isn’t so enamoured with other aspects of fame. Dealing with intrusion into his life isn’t the best, and he’ll never understand why some other stars court it.
“A lot of people who get photographed call the paparazzi. They don’t go, ‘Oh my God, how did you guys get there?’ I don’t want to ruin anyone’s myth on how that happens, but I don’t call,” he said.
