With a day of backlash and time to think about what was said, The Wiggles co-founder Anthony Field has admitted he answered a question about the departure of Sam Moran poorly on The Today Show yesterday.
The Wiggles were being interviewed by Richard Wilkins when Anthony Field put his foot in his mouth by stumbling over a simple question about the departure of Moran.
The Wiggles sent the rest of the day being portrayed as callus, cut throat and nasty businessmen parading as children’s entertainers over the suggestion that Moran was unceremoniously dumped from the group after 5 years service.
Today Field says Moran was “well looked after” and says that the band cut him in for a share of songwriting royalties for the 5 years he was with them and that will mean he will be compensated for life.
Field said Moran only wrote maybe three songs with The Wiggles but was credited on all the ones he performed on. It is estimated Moran will earn between $60,000 and $100,000 a year from royalties for those performances.
The Wiggles has reinstated original member Greg Page who left 5 years ago when Moran took over.
Field puts his bad form on The Today Show down to “one of those mornings where my mouth didn’t engage”.
