Try something new: super funky New Orleans soul-rock quartet Mutemath.
In this first installment of Your New Favourite Artist, everyone at Noise11 has been passing around the latest album Odd Soul by New Orleans ‘alt-rockers’ Mutemath.
While the cover, title, and band name might conjure up wispy kids playing indie electronica, and Mutemath were almost that. Earlier albums explored ambient synth and pop rock angles.
But in 2011, Odd Soul is an ass-shakin’ cornucopia of irresistible soul rock, falsetto, and ultra-funky drumming.
Odd Soul is the band’s third full album and even with the full power of Warner Bros behind them they’ve never quite broken through to the mainstream.
Although their time could be now. It’s an explosive album, with trippy diversions at the centre, they’re armed with a new guitarist, first single ‘Blood Pressure’ has been getting added to rock radio across the US, and they’ve already planned tours for next year.
Check out ‘Blood Pressure’ below, and under that a promo video for their pre-release club tour featuring the album’s title track.
